Neuromuscular Massage

The neuromuscular Therapy was made popular by Paul St. John and it is a massage modality that basically has attention on the treatment of trigger points. They are called trigger points because they refer pain to another part of the body.

How to Give a Neuromuscular Massage

  1. The problem area needs to be little warmed up.
  2. The very hot packs should be used to loosen up the tissue you will be probing.
  3. Massage the area with gentle hands.
  4. Using some long, smooth strokes, will engage the affected tissue in a massage warm-up session.
  5. Then you need to probe the area with your fingers until you have found a trigger point.
  6. After slow pressure you need to begin stronger, localized massage on this trigger point.
  7. Let up the pressure when your patient begins to notice a decrease in neuromuscular symptoms.

It is also said that a skilled massage therapist can only go in and work the affected trigger points to release pain from the body and mind. Not all professionals believe this sort of therapy works.

Those that have some experienced the results first hand, however, disagreed with it. There is a helping guide on how to perform the neuromuscular massage correctly and as pain-free as possible.
